Most people, especially those who don’t know how to code, think it’s impossible to make their own robot and make money from it. But OpenAI has made a new platform where anyone can make their own versions of ChatGPT and sell them on a store. You don’t need to know how to code to use it.
OpenAI announced the service, which is called GPTs, at its first development day in San Francisco. It said that GPTs are customized forms of ChatGPT that can be made for a certain reason.
One type of GPT is one that has been taught on your own collection of recipes so that you can ask it what materials are needed for a certain dish. There may also be GPTs that are made just for teaching kids math, board game rules, or how to make stickers. Companies could make a GPT that is unique to their business and can only be accessed by workers.
To make one of these GPTs, you need to either pay $20 a month for ChatGPT Plus or $20 a month for ChatGPT Enterprise for companies. After that, go to your personal account and click on Create a GPT. The GPT Builder tool will then start up.
Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, said that making a GPT can be as simple or complex as you want. According to The Verge, you can program one by telling it what you want. You can also make it your own by uploading your own data, connecting it to outside services like email and databases, and giving it access to web browsing, DALL-E, and OpenAI’s Code Interpreter tool for writing and running code.
In order to show off the feature on stage, Altman asked ChatGPT to make a GPT that gives founders advice on how to make their business better. He also put up a talk he was going to give on the subject.
In a different test, the Zapier tool was used to connect a GPT to Google Calendar so that a user could ask about their daily plans.
Anyone can make their own GPT, and there will also be ways to make money from it. OpenAI will open the GPT Store later this month, where approved makers can sell their work. It will have leaderboards, GPTs that are highlighted, and more.
In a few months, people who make robots will start getting paid based on how many people use them. At first, Altman thinks this will come in the form of an income share. However, if there is enough demand, people could subscribe to individual GPTs at a later date.
It sounds like making your own GPTs could be a safety risk, but OpenAI says creators will be in charge of their data and that chats between creators and their GPTs will not be shared with the company or other people. Also, makers won’t be able to see the conversations people have with their GPTs, though those conversations will be able to be shared with others through web links at first.
OpenAI also said that there will be systems in place to stop people from making robots that do illegal things, say cruel things, or have adult themes.
